Jim Crow Laws
I know a little bit about the Jim Crow laws because in AP US history we studied this time period extensively. The Jim Crow laws are probably the worst and most degrading laws in our nation's history. Separating the blacks from the whites in almost every aspect of their lives is so degrading and detrimental to society as a whole. I was shocked and saddened when we learned about these laws, and I am so happy to see how far our culture has moved since then. These laws definitely affect MLK's letter. A large reason he is writing the letter is because of the Jim Crow laws, and that permeates his letter in general. This time period was extremely volatile, and the Jim Crow laws had a lot to do with that.

William Kennedy "Eggs"
This short story actually had to be one of the funniest essays I have ever read. I read it in class in the computer lab on Friday and started laughing out loud, which resulted in me receiving more than one strange look and a death glare from Bridget. The point where he says "A retarded orangutan could write a better story than "Eggs" actually put me over the top and that has to be up there in the top 3 funniest lines anyone has ever written. I thoroughly enjoyed his style of humor and style of writing because I could relate to him very easily. His sense of humor is pretty much the same as mine so when someone says retarded orangutan I instantly will bellow with laughter. His dialogue with his dad was also hilarious and probably very true for some people out there when they just write a terrible story. I know my dad has said something along those lines to me before! I applaud you, William Kennedy, for writing one of the most ethereal and dynamically appealing short essays known to mankind! Until I find that retarded orangutan I am so desperately searching for, I will have to stick to just reading about how terrible of writers they are.

Why I Write
To be honest, this took a lot of thought to think of the reason why I write. I don't really write ever in my free time so I had to dig deep here. I think I write to get my point across, not just in telling someone how I feel, but to really drive my point home. It is so much easier to write something down, to edit it, to make sure it is completely perfect before I let someone read it than it is to just say how I feel about something. Writing allows for a better and more intellectual argument with someone, which is definitely important to why I write. Writing is definitely not something I do frequently in my spare time, so I am definitely looking forward to improving those skills in this class. So that is why I write.

Bill's First Day
Yo. This blog is about to be revolutionary in the way bloggers approach blogging. I'm honestly thinking about taking a nap right now, and the chances are approximately 60-40 of me falling asleep on the keyboard! I am, however, excited to see what my future in blogging brings! Bill the blog is going all the way to the top! Preparing for stardom in 3...2...1...
